Los Soles Truncos (Maimed Suns) is a play written by Rene Marques in 1958. It tells the story of three sisters, Ines, Hortensia and Emilia, who live in poverty and isolation after the death of their parents. They belong to the decaying bourgeoisie of Puerto Rico, a class that lost its power and prestige after the Spanish-American War and the U.S. occupation of the island. The sisters cling to their memories of a glorious past, but they are unable to cope with the changes and challenges of the present. They are haunted by trauma, guilt, and resentment, and they have no hope for the future.

Why is Los Soles Truncos a classic?

He also shows the contradictions and conflicts within the Puerto Rican society, especially between the elites and the masses, and between the traditionalists and the modernists.

He blends realism and expressionism to create a unique style that reflects his vision of Puerto Rico.

Third, it is a universal and timeless story that resonates with audiences from different backgrounds and generations. Los Soles Truncos explores themes such as family, love, betrayal, loneliness, nostalgia, despair, and death.
