3. **Create a new document**.

How to avoid overwriting a folder which contains a file for the first time

I’m maintaining an application which the user is likely to go through the manifest process. If he does, when he goes to run the app, the installer will ask him the different permissions, in the next run of the app, he can safely skip these permissions. The file for this will be copied from a folder to the “resources” folder of the project.
However, if he doesn’t go through the process and just run the app, the file will overwrite the folder, overwriting any of the permissions data (it’s important for the system to know the user has gone through the manifest process).
How can I avoid this? The current method of checking if the file exists is a simple if (file!= null) {}.

EDIT: I just had a look at the answer and I would like to add that the file will be in the resources folder and then modified by the user. If the user does not modify the file, it will overwrite the permissions.

For future people out there, the “correct” way to handle this was to copy the manifest file to resources folder, modify it and read from resources. However, thanks to @Mureinik, there is a “dirty” solution if you don’t want to modify the manifest (as suggested in the comments), which is the following:
