U.S. Pat. No. 3,923,280 describes an alloying element for diamond which is capable of generating a solid solution in diamond. This alloying element has the formula of (Ti,Ni) Al.sub.3. The (Ti,Ni) element is believed to prevent contamination of the diamond by carbon monoxide in the reduction process and the Al is believed to provide the desired solubility characteristics.
