GHZ Game Review: The Elder Scrolls Legends
A peculiar person, I guess. I’m relatively new to gaming and decided to give a spin to “The Elder Scrolls Legends” to see if the card system offered something interesting that I’d like to further explore.
The Elder Scrolls Legends represents a game I very seldom play, as it’s the kind of game where you’re spending most of your time building decks. If I’m not looking forward to a new Elder Scrolls Online release that’s going to give me a fresh game every month, I’ll gladly spend my time building a deck in this game. And since I haven’t finished the ‘Gambit’ decks yet, let’s just stick to the ‘Standard’ decks.
Let’s start with the biggest gripe. First off, building an deck in this game is a chore, and it gets even worse if you choose to build from cards. The game can obviously support building from cards, but the game forces you to construct your deck using the three traits of cards and that’s…not fun. Secondly, as one of the game’s most loyal, satisfied and entertaining players, I was hoping to build a deck on Genuine cards and get some hints about the Order mechanic, but I was sadly disappointed by this approach. Because of that, I was forced to build my deck using the random cards that would crop up in packs at a steady rate, not knowing how likely it was to get a specific card or which combination of cards would get me to a specific win condition.
But building a deck isn’t the only thing that needs to be done. Decks also need a lot of interaction to really make them work. This is more true for Standard than for any other format because of the key cards of the winning deck. But you can still play two-player games to decide who will win or lose in a single duel, because in Standard, a deck is limited to three copies of a single card.
Speaking of interactions, there’s also a bug that needs to be fixed. Since I had some trouble gaining the three keys for the Genuine cards (as did most
