Not many RPGs, let alone fantasy RPGs, are made for the technical performance of a PS2. The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion has extremely high graphical and performance standards, and this has led to some interesting surprises along the way.
First, the PS2, and especially the graphics card, can handle quite a bit more than some of the earlier titles in the Elder Scrolls series. For instance, the entire world from Daggerfall was rendered in-engine in Oblivion, and it looks quite good.
In addition, the game is relatively stable. Some titles (the Oblivion series included) have a reputation for instability and crashing, but Oblivion seems to have been well-researched, well-tested, and stable on my PS2 (with an ATI Radeon HD 2600 v-card).
Another surprise was that Elder Scrolls games can be played cooperatively. You and up to three other players can work together to overcome a challenge, and the game will not penalize you for using up too much of the game’s limited “story” time. You can only really cooperate with other people if the game is played with four players, because up to four players can play cooperatively in the game’s single-player mode.
Overall, the Elder Scrolls games, and especially the games in the Oblivion series, have a great deal to offer all gamers. The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions are fun to play, but the PS2 version offers the best graphics and performance. If you want to experience the Elder Scrolls games but lack a PS2, the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions are an acceptable second choice.

A few decades ago, the zombie genre was relegated to the trash heap of survival horror. It seems the tides of time are finally turning, as zombie games have been slowly coming back into the spotlight, repopularized by such remakes as the Dead Rising series and Last Day. While these are only a new take on an old genre, this appears to be the genesis of the new era of undead games.
It’s no wonder that a cross-over between zombies and RPGs would prove to be extremely enjoyable; letting the sheer brains and numbers of the zombies turn the odds in your favor should be at least mildly entertaining. This is kind of like “Barracuda mode” for zombies, and it turns out that this might not be that difficult to pull off. It’s probably a bit of a stretch to compare an entire game to the game mode in Twisted Metal, but when all is said and done, both share similar objectives: survival, and the need to outsmart the the enemy long enough to finish them off.
