Sheep of War is a short and fun game focused on the puzzle aspect of a simple indie game. It shows off how fast paced a simple game can be played yet provide the player with a rewarding experience.
The game has an isometric view like a 2d chess board, and the player must move the wolf around various levels through a maze which includes one level at a time as well as brief distractions.
The objective of the game is to eat all the sheep in a level before the level ends and the wolves health is depleted beyond repair.
If the wolf is low on health, the wolf will die, and with it the entire level.
The maximum score for a level is 100 points.
You can interact with the sheep by tapping on them to make them do things like turn to face you, flee from you, or flee into the walls that are blocking their way. With enough experimenting, the sheep will eventually become fixed on a direction and repeat actions after a predetermined number of taps.
While the wolf is free roaming around each level, there will be multiple ways to kill sheep as the wolf is not necessarily moving from the same spot to the same spot on each level, but there will be dead ends where the wolf can’t move anywhere and will die if it continues to wander without a sheep to eat.
Finally, as the wolf gets close to a sheep, a dog will alert and charge at the wolf, forcing it to move away and when it gets close to a sheep again the wolf must not move or a dog will charge at it and so on.
If the wolf eats a sheep, the sheep becomes a welcome companion until the wolf is low on health again, at which point the sheep may flee or die or become a dog to fight for you.
The wolf can eat several hundred sheep in a single level, which can be extremely rewarding at times.
There are no “spaceship” levels or checkpoint type things where the player can restart the game, but once the wolf dies there will be a respawn time, and the wolf will respawn at the very location it died, meaning that you must start over from the beginning.
