First of all, Roblox is a social networking site and playground for young kids. It’s a video game created by young developers and therefore it has some problems. Not to mention that video games are designed to entertain us, and Roblox doesn’t do that at all. Some features that bother me:
You need an internet connection in order to play. This isn’t a game anymore. In order to reach a reasonable time of playing, I had to subscribe to the service. I could either play in my browser or download the app, but the latter was significantly slower.
The “games” you create are boring and tedious. They usually have only one character and one goal, yet you need to make every player’s character a different color. (They come in different colors like red, blue and others). Creating your own worlds is also restricted, making every single part of the world the same.
As you progress through the game, you’ll gain clothes that will change your skin color and you can’t choose your own. I prefer to stay human but… ugh.
The monsters are just graphics with animation set at best. Some of them are pretty fun and scary, yet you can’t control them at all. If you want to, you can see a list of their animations when you are looking at them, but that’s literally all.
You can’t be kicked out of the game, whether you do something wrong or you simply made a mistake, you’ll have to wait and play until the end. In my opinion, the developers wanted to scare you into making good choices, yet this is worse than simply giving you a warning.
Some people say that Roblox is more than that and encourages creativity and simulation, but I disagree. You can’t program a video game that’s more complicated than a certain number of rooms or levels.
I had a different opinion of Roblox when I was 10 years old. I wanted to create my own worlds, I wanted to be creative, have control over my character and be able to decide what could happen on my own story. I wanted a game that was more than just a selection of monsters and levels, I wanted the ability to make those monsters and choose their appearance and move freely in their own world. However, I know now that Roblox is still a place for kids to socialize and play, yet I’m really disappointed because there are a lot of things I missed back in 2008.
