I’m stunned he’s taken at face value the claim that the city was protected from
the droughts in the Negev by the existence of a temple there. The true cause
was the location of the city, just like San Francisco has a bigger problem
with wild fires than San Diego.

This sentence reads “on the grounds” as if it were a foundation of the
writings. Come on, what are you trying to prove? It’s a clear cut case of
denialist argumentation fallacy. Even worse, it assumes the readership knows
nothing about religious history, when for example, the Spanish Inquisition,
which spawned a theory of the end of days, was neither the first nor the last
(“end of days” is a translation of _diése de fin_, Latin for “end of
days”).

The author starts out by saying that the statement is not his. But he then
concludes by using his own beliefs to substantiate it.
I see that as a slap in the face. He’s trying to convince other people using
his faith in the text. It’s dishonest.

is based on religious beliefs.

Citations are unimportant. They do not equal a demonstration. The author
believes this comes from God, not some scientific study.

I am going to hold a slight negative bias here based on my own upbringing. I
am not sure why, but I get the feeling that the Bible has become trendy
because it is a nice mechanism to hang your emotional armor on.
