the player is free to enter any dungeon they wish, although they are subject to the usual risk of losing equipment and supplies. exits are available at the end of each floor, and most floors have several possible exits. to use the exit, the player clicks on the exit tile. successfully exiting a floor allows the hero to ascend to a higher floor. in-game message popups advise the player on the direction and other details they should consider when ascending. ascending works similarly to starting a dungeon in the normal way, with the following differences:
- the start screen is changed to contain the exit tile.
- the exit tile is much stronger. it will also be used to open the exit if that is the only option.
the hero can also ascend by defeating the boss in a normal dungeon, although only the first six floors can be ascended this way.
advanced options are available via the game’s options menu. the most notable settings include game speed and the ability to adjust the appearance of all tiles. other settings include the maximum number of floors that can be ascended, and whether items will be allowed to drop in the dungeon. many other settings have to do with game mechanics, including the order in which items should be checked for upgrades.
the game’s official website contains information on the full version of the game, including a brief explanation of what is new in the latest build and an explanation of the dlcs. a separate download is available for the v1.02 patch, which adds a few new features and fixes several bugs.
As usual, there is a toggle that will turn all the features on or off for switching quickly between vanilla PD and Pixel Dungeon modes.
