As more affordable cameras introduced over time with greater video resolution and data sizes, more efficient database management also becomes necessary. The introduction of firmware v4.0 brought about a new database architecture in order to be futureproof.
After upgrading to v4.X, the recorder database will need to be converted and optimize. If you are experiencing issues, where playback is expected but not found, please make sure to perform Database Rebuild as indicated in the procedures and scenarios below.

The camera lets you attach the optional 18x zoom lens to the bottom of the camera. The lens comes with an adapter that allows you to attach it to Canon EF-M lenses. This is perfect for taking pictures of your subjects at a range of distances and for keeping some of your shots tight.

Firmware 18 includes a few minor changes and improvements, including the ability to record audio with the camera connected to a portable digital audio recorder using Canon’s proprietary Canon Digital Photo System (CDS) protocol. There are also some changes to the way the EOS Utility Software interface displays images. The key changes are:

The video side of the 1023 is extremely good. As I mentioned previously, in the US, the 1023 ships with full HD 1080p video in both MP4 and AVCHD M-JPEG formats. I found that there was a slight issue with the AVCHD files, but I could not figure out what the problem was. I believe the problem was only introduced after a firmware update to the camera, and it was very difficult to get an explanation for it from the Canon service rep. The 1023 will also record at 4K in 10 bit log via AVCHD and AVCHD-S.

The Canon EOS M3 has a few quirks. In addition to not having an interchangeable lens mount, it also lacks a built-in image stabilization (IS) system. Not having an IS system is a bit of a bummer because it results in less-sharp images when taking handheld shots with slow shutter speeds. If you do a lot of hand-held shots at slow shutter speeds, this could be a deal breaker. Although the M3 has a less sensitive ISO (only ISO 200 versus ISO 100 on the M2), the noise on the EOS M3 is on par with its older siblings, the EOS M2 and EOS M50. To me, this is a non-issue because there are much better alternatives in terms of overall quality at lower price points. However, if image-quality is paramount to you, then the EOS M3 could be a good option. The Canon 1023if firmware 18 also has a new feature that is meant to be an alternative to Live View. The new feature allows you to take still photos while the screen is turned off and is available in the shooting configuration screen as the Dual Display option. With Dual Display mode enabled, the stills you shoot are displayed on the rear monitor. If the rear monitor is off, the preview is displayed on the touchscreen monitor — a feature that will be familiar to EOS M3 owners who use Live View to preview shots before taking them. In all other shooting modes, Dual Display mode is disabled.
Aside from the AF, the features are lacking in my opinion. I like the 5-Axis IBIS, but I would have liked a bit more customization. The dual SD cards feel like a throwback, and if I want to record a clip to be used in a multimedia project, I always want to be able to swap cards in an instant. I dont want to have to be dumb about it. I think that its also important to note that the GH6s are only compatible with certain flashes. I think that this is done to ensure that the GH6 and VFLASH are 100% compatible, but thats not always a really good thing for flash owners who can only get the Panasonic, or the Nikon, or Canon VFLASH.
