i really do not know how to advise you, because i have no experience with arcsoft software. all i know is that you should contact the manufacturer or the author of the software since they will be the ones with more experience with the software and therefore will be the ones who can help you.
finally figured out how to get windows update updates fixed. it turned out that the problem was in the windows update server. the machine was running out of space, so i decided to remove some applications or program from windows 7/8/10, since i’d be making backups of the machine once everything was fine. unfortunately, i had moved the arcsoft totalmedia program to the top of the list, so it was not updated.
as a note, you can delete programs from the windows 7/8/10 list, and it will prompt you for confirmation. otherwise, i’ve learned that i could just go into the control panel, click on all control panel items > programs, click on “edit” and then click on the “uninstall” button to remove the program.
once i got it to work, i noticed that there were no progress bars, and windows update was indicating it had updated the install successfully. so, i tested it out, and it updated to arcsoft totalmedia 3.5.28.217 successfully.
i tried to unistall arcsoft totalmedia but it hasn’t solved my problem, everything you guys suggest doesn’t help either, so i’m requesting you again to help me and if its a compatibility issue with windows 10, please inform me of that, thank you all in advance.
recently i have reported this issue in windows 10 technical preview but was ignored by the arcsoft developers. their “support” failed to solve my issue. they said that i should wait for the next official release of their software. but i couldn’t, i was waiting for the official release, and when it was released, the version of the software was older than when i reported my issue in windows 10 build 9841.
may be a problem related with the previous one, if you have tryied to install arcsoft, than unistall it, and than install it again. maybe there is some problem with the last arcsoft, so i’m waiting for a new one.
i don’t know why the new version is crashing during the installation, but if it crashes, it’s a bug of arcsoft, and i already reported it on their website, but i’m not sure if they will be able to fix it.
i’m not getting explorer.exe crashes anymore, ijust mentioned that my issues with arcsoft installation (that i had previously)probably is related with others similar reports where explorer.exe crashed randomly that have been reported by others insider users during the last weeks of the year.

method 2 (step 1): safe mode does not change anything, it was already reported by others users also that have explorer.exe crashes, these crashes continue happening even in safe mode too, but in my case it was only during the installation of arcsoft.
method 2 (step 2): unistalling arcsoft caused the crashes to stop, but the problem is that i don’t know how many times i have unistalled arcsoft without noticing, because now that i’m writing this article, i have installed arcsoft 3 times in the last 4 hours, and i haven’t had any crashes yet, but i don’t know if tomorrow i will have crashes or not, so i suggest to clean up youre registry to remove all the leftovers of arcsoft.
