The Education version of WinWedge is a student version that is designed to save both your time and your data entry errors. It does not support any simultaneous keystrokes; you must use only one at a time. Since one PC cannot talk to another PC at the same time, WinWedge Pro can only send one keystroke at a time. If you need to send more than one keystroke in a row, you must manually enter the data or you must use a serial device with separate RS232 serial ports. WinWedge Pro also restricts the RS232 and DDE in and out ports, the device address, the buffer size and other parameters to make the serial port as secure as possible. WinWedge Pro also captures even non-serial data including: mouse movements, system clipboard, keystrokes on other software windows, DDE “events”, i.e. when a window is activated or deactivated on another PC,.Net applications, COM port redirection (through your operating system’s COM port redirector), TCP/IP application output (through TCP-Com) and other data. Once WinWedge Pro has captured the serial data, it instantly converts it into a form that is compatible with any Windows compatible program that can DDE data, such as ACCESS, VB, MS Access, Excel, MS Project, LIMS, MMIs, Statistica or any Windows application that supports DDE. WinWedge Pro can also transmit prompts or commands through the serial port to control your instruments.
Think of WinWedge Pro as an “IDE” for your serial instrument. Once you capture data using WinWedge Pro, you can now save that data as a.dll or.exe file that you can then load into your other programs such as a VB application or a DDE compatible program. If you download WinWedge Pro Education, you will also get both a.dll and an.exe file for the user’s convenience. You can use the.dll or.exe file to build your own custom applications or you can use the.dll or.exe file to create your own demo software. You can use the.dll or.exe file to create a standalone program to read only data from serial devices.
WinWedge easily collects data from balances, gages, meters, sensors, micrometers, barcode scanners, GPS, PLCs, analyzers and other measuring devices and laboratory instruments. It can send the data directly into any Windows program, including Excel spreadsheets, Access databases, LIMS and MMIs, or medical databases!
The Professional Edition also has the ability to send or receive RS232 serial data across a TCP/IP network using two additional programs called TCP-Wedge and TCP-Com. TCP-Com is designed to expose a RS232 serial port to a TCP/IP port on a network and TCP-Wedge is exactly the same as WinWedge Pro except that it inputs data from a TCP/IP port instead of an RS232 serial port.
WinWedge 32 Pro is a true 32-bit version with advanced parsing, filtering and formating of text, binary, hex, octal and ASCII data. Expanded DDE support allows other applications to completely control WinWedge and all serial I/O. This lets you create extremely powerful data acquisition and device control interfaces from within any Windows application that supports DDE (including Excel, Access, MMIs and LIMS). It also supports TCP/IP communications and is 30% faster. Two additional programs – TCPWedge and FileWedge are included free with the WinWedge 32 Pro.
