That being said, theres no doubt that Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 has a few flaws which you wouldnt find in any other fighting game. The biggest one is the lack of AI. All the characters in this game have a basic 1-3 hit combo, meaning they can hop into a sparring match with anyone–but that anyone is a ragdoll. Fighters who get knocked down will continue to lay there until you tap the X button, which will end the fight instantly. If youre lucky, they might even roll over on their back when theyre done getting knocked about. Its just not as fun as having to think about a strategy, and it doesnt make any sense to save an attempt from getting knocked down if youll be pummeled for three minutes anyway. Theres also a bit of the feel of cheapness to it, with costumes that really dont look as if they were intended to be worn in battle. Even beyond the costumes, though, theres very little satisfaction in winning fights, and therefore, theres no real incentive to make use of any strategy. All the characters have nine buttons to them, with either a normal attack or a combo attack, and a two button jump. A button even lets you execute the rage ability, where the character will instantly scream and tear your opponents limbs off. Half the button system is pretty self-explanatory, with many of the button combinations used to perform various attacks, while the other half is original to this game and ties into story and character events. All the characters have a super move, a charging attack that gives them a set amount of rage points, and it becomes their primary attack if you begin comboing. I believe this is the only game that actually allows the player to choose which of their character’s super moves will become their primary attack. Unfortunately, its almost always right before the super move, so itsnt all that fun, and some of the characters only have one or two different super moves.
