Paramount Pictures Inc., CAFE-IA and National Association of Canadian Theatres. The CAFE-IA built a case for the domestic market for Canadian movie theatres to operate their own projection machines. Paramount made the argument that the films were for the international market and the machines cost nearly twice as much as the machines the companies were already leasing from Paramount. They also argued that though the Canadians could use the machines at a discount, the projectionists in the future could not. As the defendants of the court case, Paramount did not want to commit to the individual theatre operators in Canada that their machines would not be able to be used in the future, as this would have an adverse effect on the theatre trade in Canada.
