The languor of the scene is punctuated by snowflakes and ice crystallizing in the corners of the frame, and an albinistic mitten seems to float across the screen. The two-screen work is in fact a gesture toward a difference in perspective and projection, between the two screen areas themselves: The image of Garretts face would have been focused on and hidden by the second panel, making it a portrait of Man Ray as a stranded fool and, by extension, a poignant image of Garretts entry into film. Once beyond the stark white, Rebecca moves into colour, presenting what appears to be a small interior space lit by smoky light. The confluence of the two screens and their snowscapes creates for the onlooker a haunting meditative uncertainty. As in the Heresies and Barrys, the viewer is forced to confront a world of fragile fantasy.
