The boot-loader is done with its fastboot tasks and it will boot the operating system. This is where the boot process becomes a bit confusing for Windows 7. In fact, the boot process can take more than 30 seconds. While the boot-loader is starting the operating system, the boot process in a Windows 7 system becomes very parallelized. The data will be synchronized and the system services will start and finish in parallel. This happens while the Windows logo (with exclamation mark) is starting on the screen.

The final ReadyBoot.etl file you use is named \\ReadyBoot.etl and needs to be on the C: drive. This file acts as a preloader file. You would place this file on the Windows boot partition for a 32-bit version of Windows Vista or Windows 7. For a 64-bit version of Windows, you would use C:\Windows\boot.etl. For this reason, Microsoft has renamed these files to boot.etl and boot.etl, respectively.

We strongly recommend that you create a backup first before you decide to replace your ReadyBoot.etl. This includes the entire boot partition as well as the Windows Prefetch folder. A drive image is a good way to create this backup. You can use at least a 30GB or bigger drive to prevent overwriting anything during a backup. To back up your Windows drive, right-click on the Start button and select, Backup and Restore. Follow the onscreen instructions to create an image of the drive.

Note: If you try reinstalling Windows, be sure that your ReadyBoot.etl file is a valid one that matches the version of XNote Stopwatch that you are running. For example, you would want to use a ReadyBoot.etl file that matched the version of XNote Stopwatch that you are running, i.e., XNote 2013 SP1, XNote 2014, XNote 2015 SP1, etc. If you are using XNote Stopwatch 2015, the ReadyBoot.etl file would be located in the folder C:\XNote Stopwatch 2015\Features\ReadyBoot
