A discrete finite element model was developed for the validation of the Wiener integral strain based finite element method. A model that couples the displacement and strain fields of an anisotropic viscoelastic test bar with a truss that is subjected to a concentrated force was simulated. A preliminary step was carried out in which a bar was modeled as being made of n-1 linear material elements, with n being the number of nodes, and a fifth order polynomial strain-displacement law, with zero initial deformation. The discrete finite element model was validated by comparing the computed and the experimental displacement fields. Then, the model was used for the analysis of stresses and strains due to the application of a concentrated force on the truss. Comparison of the results with experimental data showed that the deformation predicted by the model was in close agreement with those measured by the test.This invention relates generally to electronic circuits and, more particularly, to digital signal processors.
Microprocessors, or more generally digital signal processors, execute repetitive operations at high speed. Typically, such operations are required to be executed many times in relation to a single instruction. Because these operations are repeatedly executed, the microprocessor is required to operate in a pipelined fashion to maximize efficiency. A pipelined processor issues successive stages or “clock cycles,” each such stage or cycle including an instruction fetch operation, an instruction decode operation, a data memory fetch operation, an execution operation, and a data memory update operation. For example, in the PowerPC RISC microprocessor produced by the assignee of the present invention, each such clock cycle supports one instruction.
Microprocessors having one or more, and more particularly two, simultaneous issue ports provide additional efficiency. In addition to efficiently executing two separate instructions issued on the same clock cycle, pipelined microprocessors simultaneously executing multiple instructions may execute such instructions in parallel. For example, a particular instruction may require data to be loaded from memory and another instruction may require data to be loaded from memory.
