Electronic toothbrushes for domestic use typically have to meet certain basic requirements. The electronic toothbrush has to be compact and lightweight, must be intuitive to use, and the manufacturing cost should be kept as low as possible.
The conventional electric toothbrush employs a brush moving in a reciprocating motion. One example of a conventional electric toothbrush is shown in FIG. 1. The toothbrush 1 includes a handpiece body 2, a handle 3, and a motor 4. The motor 4 is disposed in the handle 3. A switch 5 is mounted on the handle 3. An end of the handpiece body 2 is received in the switch 5. The motor 4 has a shaft 6, which extends out of the handle 3. At an end of the shaft 6 is a driving gear 7. The driving gear 7 engages a gear 8 that projects from the handpiece body 2. In operation, when the switch 5 is turned on, the driving gear 7 rotates. Consequently, the gear 8 is driven by the driving gear 7, which in turn drives the brush 9. The brush 9 is in the form of a brush head 11, which projects out of the end of the handpiece body 2.
The conventional electric toothbrush has the drawback that the brush head 11 is exposed to the outside air.
