How VBS works:
If you have ever recorded yourself or someone speaking using a vocal microphone, you probably noticed the echo or “reverb” that was recorded. For example, if you were recording yourself while saying “Hello” then the “Hello” would play over and over again in your recording. This is because the microphone was picking up your voice while you recorded it!
The VBS uses two different algorithms to compensate for this.
The first one is called Frequency Mapping and it analyzes the sound waves of the music you have selected and adjusts the audio playback speaker volumes in real time to help eliminate echo. This process runs faster than when using a DAW as adjusting the audio playback software is simple.
The second method uses a phase vocoder that splits up the voice into separate frequencies or harmonics, which are then channeled to the side and reassembled to create the original voice.
Because of the way VBS works, the music is played back twice: once before the v2v balancing tones are added and once after the tones are added. The music is slowed down by half (50%) to compensate for the faster playback rate of v2v.
