The application uses the Internet Explorer browser through which it communicates with C2 servers. The attacker could be behind an infected computer within the same organization, a computer under his/her physical control, or a computer under his/her remote control.
When the system is successfully compromised, the adversary can download the next-stage payload that houses the Cobalt Strike binary on the system. Cobalt Strike and other MITRE technologies include a collection of exploits, tools and techniques that cyber criminals use for espionage purposes.
The developers of AhnLab V3 Internet Security discovered that the tool had been used in the wild by threat actors, and like many of the fake antivirus toolkit vulnerabilities, they attempted to avoid addressing the issue. It was patched in March 2018, however, and even though Ahnlab V3 Internet Security was certified in March 2019, the potential for exploits and the threat of spyware remain.
The Ahnlab V3 Internet Security team reported the issue to Kaspersky , and the researchers responsibly disclosed the issue in August 2018. Kaspersky’s security team confirmed that the vulnerability was patched.
A hacker used a brute-force attack against a U.S.-based company’s database at the South Korean cyber security company AhnLab Security Emergency Response Center (ASEC) to steal almost 10,000 records of bank customers.
Ahnlab V3 Internet Security can create a database of IP addresses and scan them for trends and patterns. The feature can also be used to filter out future threats based on specific IP addresses.
Ahnlab V3 Internet Security also blocks malicious traffic, speeds up your Wi-Fi, stops unwanted pop-ups, and monitors malicious software.
