noob comment: it seems to me that there are lots of people interested in looking at early christianity who are familiar with the new testament, but might not be familiar with the apocrypha, and its contents are interesting.
i’ve been going through the apocrypha recently, and enjoying it. i think some of these sources are helpful in understanding the new testament better. and some of them have nice quotes from the bible in them. in fact, i’ve never seen anything like it!
i just read this book and got lots of ideas about how christianity had gotten messed up as we know it today. he actually states, and i’ve really said this as well, that the apocrypha was not inspired, and was clearly man-made after the fact.
i have been teaching this book over the years, and i have enjoyed it because it has such wonderful material in it and it shows that these books are perhaps some of the most important of the whole bible.
i know that’s a lot of information, but if you get the chance, read all of them, and then get the free e-book called the apocrypha and pseudepigrapha, which i have, and it gives a great deal of good information about them.
