This question got me thinking about a topic I’ve been developing recently, in fact I’m not even sure why I originally posted it. I guess I had to do something with it and decided to go through the rest of the pages of this site with all the random questions I’d like to find the answer to.
The way I approach this problem is to generate a random number for each element in the array. There are two ways to do that, one way is to generate a random number from the range of values specified by the array. The other way is to generate a random number and then use the modulus operator to get a specific value within the specified range.
Since the array is defined on the rows and columns of the matrix, and the modulus operator takes an element and a range, I’ll first need to define a function that returns a specific element within a range. Since the modulus operator will return an integer, this will be necessary. Since each element is a number, a very simple function to use is rand(num).
Once I have a function that returns an integer, I need to generate an array of that size. To do that, I’ll generate a random number between 0 and 1, and then use the ceil function to round up or down to the nearest integer of the size of the array.
The way I would do that is:
s = ceil(rand(1,size(a)));
Then, to generate the random elements on the board, I’ll use the following loop:
