Morrissey has asked reporters to “respect my privacy” after going to the American Music Awards

Rock star Morrissey has been elected to the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The award is for recording artists, and is given to celebrities with a global audience who have contributed to popular culture.

Morrissey, 56, is best known for his lead vocal role in The Smiths, a band he founded in Manchester.

He has lived in Los Angeles since the band disbanded in 1987.
