Apple’s AutoCAD received a new major release in September 2017. New features include DXF importing and exporting (including properties and tags), PDF-based drawings, CAD design sheet metal (a new type of sheet-metal profile), and linking to 3D models using native web services for solid modeling. AutoCAD 2018 is the first release to support the Autodesk subscription business model, in which the company sells a perpetual license to use the application, with the option of paying an additional fee for a subscription to additional features. This article reviews the major new features of AutoCAD 2018.
DXF Import and Export
DXF is the standard file format used in CAD for graphical representations. While the DWG file format is the standard for CAD of two-dimensional (2D) drawings, its use is more limited than DXF, and most (but not all) 2D CAD applications cannot import or export DWG files.
DXF Import
DXF Import can import CAD files from other desktop CAD applications and model libraries. The format supports DXF-based files from other applications. As long as those files contain DWG or DXF information, they can be imported into AutoCAD. AutoCAD is the only application for which DXF Import will import: DXF Import supports DWG, DWF, DWG-based files, and some DXF files.

DXF Import supports a handful of options for importing files. Most importantly, it can import individual entities from other CAD applications as well as model libraries. It can also import drawings from other applications as long as they are DWG, DXF, or DWG-based files. DXF Import also supports a fully automatic or manual selection of objects to import. A little icon appears next to the Import button (Figure 1), which can be clicked to view the supported file formats.

DXF Import also supports import of AutoCAD’s table of contents (ToC). However, if an XML-based ToC is present in the file, AutoCAD will use the ToC from that file.
DXF Import has some problems with DWG-based files and model libraries. The imported file will have the properties of the first imported object. For example, when you import a model library, all the models will have the same properties

In 2014 Autodesk announced their cloud software, Autodesk Application Manager (AutoAM). AutoAM provides a “self-service model” in which users can run their programs in the cloud and pay for the use of compute resources according to their needs.
The two applications Autodesk Digital Sandbox and Autodesk Cloud Gallery are also free web applications that can be used for free online design.
In May 2019, Autodesk Software has announced the discontinuation of Autodesk Inventor 2018.
Autodesk also offers a platform of cloud-based services including cloud collaboration and cloud-based versions of many of its products, allowing users to connect to multiple Autodesk products and services from a single location or device.
Multidisciplinary design
Multidisciplinary design is used for team designing and integrates designers, engineers, manufacturers and other stakeholders to product development.
“Multidisciplinary design” came to life with digital products. Multidisciplinary design aims to produce a more coordinated approach to design.
There are various examples of multidisciplinary design, such as the Airbus A380, the 2015 Jaguar C-X75, and more recently the Boeing 787.

In addition to moving 3D objects into place, you can now move and rotate 3D objects (or one object inside another). In addition, 3D manipulations now move and rotate automatically, without the need to apply a transformation in place. This feature is especially useful when you’re editing a file in 3D and you’re not sure how it will look when it’s displayed in a 3D viewport.
Improved editability of 3D objects.
A key component of the 3D modeling experience is the ability to easily edit 3D objects in the drawing window. Previous versions of AutoCAD were a little harder to edit 3D objects because you had to apply a transformation to move an object. With version 2023, you can use the Edit 3D box to edit a 3D object that is anywhere in the drawing window.
3D rotation and scaling.
Previously, if you wanted to make a 3D object larger, you had to apply a 3D rotation (like a compass) to move the object and then an additional rotation (a different amount) to scale the object. With AutoCAD 2023, the 3D rotations you apply in a 3D viewport can be used to adjust the size and scale of the 3D object. The 3D object won’t appear to move or rotate when it’s scaled, just as you would expect in a 2D drawing.
Make and edit Locking for 3D objects.
