delcam considers flowline machining the most important new option in this release. the toolpath is divided between a pair of drive curves in a constant number of passes, rather than having a varying number of passes with a constant stepover. the toolpath will have its start and end passes on the drive curves, with the intermediate passes blending between them. delcam says this approach gives smoother results becaue it ensures each pass travels over the full length of the area, rather than leaving the part or making major changes in direction during the pass. delcam also says it produces a better surface finish on the part and minimizes wear on the cutter and the machine tool.
powermill now also includes a new feature that allows the user to draw around the profile of the workpiece. the profile is drawn in the form of a series of lines and can be used to highlight areas of interest or to define the outer dimensions of a workpiece. the tool can then be created using the profile. the profile can be drawn with the mouse, a line being added by pressing the right mouse button. alternatively, the user can type in the profile by using the new text input box.
powermill is being updated to support delcam’s new g-code language and a new version of the official code maker program will be available at the event. the g-code language is designed to be easy to use for beginners and advanced users. code maker allows the user to create g-codes, which can be transferred to other programs or systems. the g-codes are created using drag and drop functionality within the program.
