GenLib is designed to be a set of classes and interfaces that provide means of object oriented programming for Genetic Algorithms (GAs).

An application can choose to use GenLib’s objects and use the standard Genetic Algorithms (GA) provided by the library.

GenLib comes with some standard problem types but it also supports implementing of your own problem types.
It also supports 2 different types of GA; Trait based GA (TDGA) and direct search GA (DSA).

Installation

Download and install using the stand alone installation script.
In the main CmakeLists.txt file, there is a GenLibConfig.cmakefile which must be modified.

Using in projects

To use the library simply add the header file (GenLib.h) and link with the library.

Any of the methods provided by the class can now be called on myAlgo to perform any of the various operations and using whatever settings.

The designer/developer has complete control over what is allowed for.
All these settings and other aspects of the GA can be set and changed using the public methods.
To have a good working GA object, the developer has to understand the basics of GAs.

In order to solve different types of problems, the developers have full control over what is allowed.

An example of a simple problem type is a binary optimization problem with additive and multiplicative settings for each parameter.

GenLib is a library of genetic algorithms which were originally designed for optimization problems.
GenLib is an open source project. Anyone can be a contributor by sharing time and knowledge.
Each class is designed to encapsulate the operator. So you can just add one operator to the population.
We use the Java programming language. Thus, one can extend the library and reuse all the existing classes.

A single object of a “Genome” class can be added to a population.
There are two operators – “Select Evolution” and “Mutate”.
Use the “current” operator for current generation of a population.
One can find the code to support both single and multiple objectives.
Another goal would be to allow easy (once one managed to understand the library design) assembling and testing of variety of algorithms by combining genetic operators.
The code is currently in a beta-test version.
