KMPlayer is only for you if you have nothing else, including a DVD player. VLC, which is the other popular alternative to KMPlayer is much better if you have a DVD player. It can also handle files without installing libdvdcss1(which is illegal) or trying to repack copyrighted and impossible-to-get WMA files as OGG Vorbis files.

I have been using KMPLAYER for years. This new build is almost flawless and with the new codecs and options you have better quality than any other players. The only problem I have is that one time I tried to watch a DVD in fullscreen on my TV and when the video ended, the window was still fullscreen on my TV, it just didn’t fit.

I was using WMP 10 and KMPLAYER 6 before it was discontinued but since KMPLAYER 2.9.3.1214 there have been some minor bugs and a configuration change for video format in which videos now open with the VIDEO_TS folder instead of inside the VIDEO_TS folder. That has been fixed with 3.0.0.1442.

I’ve been using KMPlayer for years, it’s always been my main player with GOMPlayer 2.0 as my second choice. I like the newly added Speed Control and VO Queue, and I wish it had had a Profile Memory button like MPC which would control which to recall when viewing files. I like having the ability to display multiple files simultaneously, maybe a progress display of each file (even though I always recall what files I’m viewing) and have some way to “find” files in the background (I’ve done this but don’t know how). I think the.wmv codecs are very slow but I don’t recall any issues with any other codecs. I should also mention the Audo Plugin which allows the player to act as a sound card without the need for a personal sound card. It’s nice feature for portable players and hackers. And finally I can’t get my dual monitor setup to work with KMPLAYER or GOMPLAYER. They just open the first file in the folder, they don’t remember from one file to the next, which is odd. That’s one of my biggest “feature” wants, to have KMPLAYER/GOMPLAYER remember the file from one file to the next.

KMPlayer is the best media player I know of. KMPlayer is the only media player I use on my computers and I recommend it for any non-developer. KMPlayer’s interface is easy to use and looks a lot like the Microsoft Media Player Classic. The ability to play video and audio is amazing, and I consider KMPlayer to be a close rival to Microsoft Media Player Classic.
KMPlayer is the best media player for Linux. The only reason I use VLC and other players is because of Windows. I feel like Linux really misses out when using real players. I would have to say it’s almost perfect if it would support widescreen.
As far as media players go, I’ve been using MPlayer and VLC. KMPlayer is outstanding. It loads pretty quickly and the interface makes it easy to work with. It plays pretty much every format I try, it’s easy to navigate, and it’s fast. I just wish it would have more skins. I can’t even begin to describe how perfect it is. It almost blows me away. I am dead serious.
To start with, there are no user friendly/friendly support channels. The developers hang out on IRC, Google Talk, etc and answer questions in realtime. Unlike the community of free software, you have to talk to people who volunteer their time. The developers don’t expect you to try to decipher the mangled threads and messages; you have to try. If you ask a question that someone has answered in the IRC channel, it probably won’t be answered again unless you ask the same question in a few weeks time. Second, the program works fine if you install it and don’t touch the settings. KMPlayer is basically a streaming player. The default settings/settings will work for you. The settings for the download settings let you decide when to download videos, how to download them, and if you wish, when to pause playback and resume later.
