the miller-levine biology is a great text. it is up-to-date, and it delivers great content. the text is both easy to read, and easy to use. it is an excellent option for students who are looking for a well-written text for high school biology. i did not have any issues with the text, and i really enjoyed using the text as a guide to learning more about biology!
we have added a number of new classes to our list of reference organisms for the master tree of life, including bacteria (clades of bacteria, order of bacteria), archaea (clades of archaea, order of archaea), fungi (phyla of fungi, classes of fungi), plants (classes of plants, orders of plants, families of plants, sub-families of plants), and eukaryota (phyla of eukaryota, classes of eukaryota, orders of eukaryota, families of eukaryota, and sub-families of eukaryota). this tree can be found on the biology.miller-levine.com site, and is also available on the biology.about.com site (in the education section).
before each chapter test, you will have access to a summary of each chapter, a review section, and an online quiz. the summary covers the main points of each chapter, and the review section is just that, a review of the chapter. the quiz is a multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, matching question test.
as a whole, this book is phenomenal! my 3rd grade students read it (already) and loved it. my 11th grade students loved it. at this point, i am not sure if they are ready for the whole book yet, but they are definitely ready for biology 1. my 7th grade students would be ready for it in a heartbeat! i agree with the previous reviewer, that the book is great as it is, but would be great if there were just a little more scientific data in it.
