The Photo Fade application was designed to be a screensaver that emulates a particular slideshow screensaver, found on newer Mac computers. I really like the idea of having a folder of images that you can use for a screensaver slideshow, but I’ve always been troubled by the lack of pizazz in the slideshow screensaver that comes with Window XP. At work, we have to use Macs (I mostly despise them) but there are a few things that they do that I really like… and this type of screensaver is one of them.
Photo Fade is a slideshow that displays a random image from the chosen directory, while either zomming in or zooming out slightly as the picture is shown. It features a soft fade to transition between images, and is very relaxing to watch (depending on what kind of images you’ve got loaded into it). You can install and configure it just like a normal screensaver, thanks to Network Maestro’s screensaver DLL. All images are loaded and unloaded dynamically during runtime, so the program shouldn’t take up too much memory overall.

The Photo Fade screensaver displays the contents of your chosen directory as a slideshow. You can show an “infinite” number of images by having the program repeatedly scan the directory for new images. You can also choose to use either the “zoom” mode, or the “fade” mode, and the images will be randomly displayed and fade in or out, or zoom in or out as they come into view. The screensaver will cycle through the images automatically, with no need to set a timer. The screensaver will also be saved in its running state (just like your regular screensaver), allowing you to resume your slideshow from any computer on the network.

The image extraction process is done in the background while you watch your slideshow. This means that the program will be completely unaffected by whatever else you’re doing on your system. If you’re downloading files or running your PC in an energy-efficient mode, you’ll find Photo Fade to be a highly relaxing and time-efficient screensaver.

The screensaver can support an unlimited number of images in each directory, so you can build a slideshow of your favorite images, and make it available to your friends and family.

If you prefer, you can configure the screensaver to only show one image at a time, rather than cycling through all of the images in the directory. You can also configure the screensaver to show only a certain number of images, or stop after a certain number of images. There are many settings available to fine-tune your slideshow.

A built-in animation effect will play between every set of images, providing a soothing effect. You can control the duration of the animation.

Photo Fade is an extremely simple slideshow screensaver that displays a random image from a specified directory. It is designed to work well with the Mac version of Network Maestro’s screensaver DLL, and will only display images in BMP or JPG format.

INSTALLATION:

1. Open Photo Fade, and click on the screen saver options.

2. Select Photo Fade from the list of available screensavers.

7. Check the box next to Fade to transition between images.

8. Check the box next to Remove when quits.

USAGE:

Photo Fade is a screensaver that can be used to display a series of images randomly, while either zomming in or zooming out slightly as the picture changes. It’s a very easy screensaver to use, and is also relatively memory friendly.

I believe it to be one of the nicest screensavers I’ve seen, not just because of the screen saver itself, but also because it emulates the slideshow screensaver that is included in the Mac version of Network Maestro’s screensaver DLL. While the default slideshow screensaver that comes with Windows XP is fairly barebones and not really able to customize it at all, this screensaver lets you completely change the way the images are shown and faded in between.
