I don’t see the “Smart Preview” as a drawback. What I don’t like is that the preview window doesn’t show you the images (nor does… show you anything). All you get is a black window with a progress bar and two textboxes – which I have to open to get to the actual images. The images are still large, and when I do open the image preview Windows I don’t see any image previewing at all. I know they are there because I can look at them and they are there, just they don’t show up in the window. Maybe there is a way to get them to show up – I would have to look.
The “Refine” function is now much more effective. It takes longer to open (and the time spent on this function seems to be longer than usual) but the process works again. You don’t need to add “outlines”. Moreover, the “Refine Edge/Adjustments” function behaves much better when using “wet” techniques (gradients) – the “curves” are not really accurate and give very odd results. The “blacks” dialog is now a little better – it seems to have more flexibility. Auto-Level: too easy; just not as effective as with previous versions.
