Running errands takes us across the map
Yesterday I ran a few errands around where I live, starting with a run to the library, which is about 1.7 miles from home. It is their summer hours and it was hot outside, which must be what prompted me to run in the first place!
While I was at the library I decided to grab a quick lunch and run over to the old City Hall. Although it has been vacant since 1998, it is still very pretty. I ran the length of the City Hall property, most of which is a park.
From there I hopped on the San Diego Trolley for about a mile to a downtown area (since I live near downtown it may as well be downtown).
Once I dropped off my shopping at a store on the way back, it was another.8 mile to home, which I completed in 1:05. For a total of 3.4 miles (5:33 per mile).
So, between the Trolley line and the power of the mind, I was able to complete my errands in about an hour and a half. Yay!

Deep venous thrombosis in relation to cancer and anticoagulation in a cancer patient cohort: results from the Stockholm Cancer Case-Control/register study.
Prothrombin time-adjusted warfarin dose has been used to prevent venous thromboembolism (VTE) in cancer patients. Yet, recent research questions this approach. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of cancer and vitamin K antagonists on occurrence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in cancer patients. Cancer patients entered into the Stockholm Cancer Case-Control study. Cases were hospitalised for DVT. Controls were randomly selected, individually matched to case-patients on sex, age at index date and index year. Warfarin use (yes/no) and a factor V Leiden mutation (no/yes). Data on cancer were taken from the hospital’s computerised record system. Data on other comorbidities were collected from patient records. Unconditional logistic regression was used to determine hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) of cancer on incidence of VTE. During median follow-up of 15 years (range < 6 months-25 years) after cancer, 584 (2.2%) DVT-cases and 1297 controls (4.8%) were identified. Incident DVT cases were younger, with 47.5% female, 21.7% haemorrhagic and 65.5% thrombotic, compared to 16.7% and 86.2% in the control group (P < 0.001). In survival analysis, VTE occurred in 0.9% women and 2.0% men during 3441 person-years. Cancer patients had no more overall hospitalised VTE and DVT (HR, 0.81; 95% CI 0.47-1.39 and HR, 1.13; 95% CI 0.68-1.
