Override is a first-person shooter set in a science-fiction world where the god Poseidon has sent a succession of warriors known as the Archons to protect humanity from the invading shapeshifters. The shapeshifters are the dominant race on Override, and as the story progresses you will be asked to play as several of the Archons. Choose your playstyle: quick with a shield, deadly with a pistol, big and brawny with a mecha-beast or master of magic, or everything at once!
Bellona and Override’s more recent DLC packs all have their roots in the first game, so if you have yet to play it, you are in for a treat.

Bellona, the Roman goddess of war comes to Override!
Bellona is the Roman goddess of war and is famous for keeping enemies at bay, then striking them with devastating ranged attacks. Outfitted with a special shield, War Chariot and Shield Throw attacks, and ultimate move, Bellona’s on your team!
Your shield is a powerful weapon – use it to block enemy attacks. You can also use it to throw yourself forward to land a throw attack and make your foe flinch. If you are already in the air, you can use it to activate your War Chariot, allowing you to move quickly and without making contact with the ground. Every attack performed with your shield will deal bonus damage.
The War Chariot Attack: thrown, thrown with shield assist, and held. They will all inflict damage and knock back enemies.
Shield Throw: normally activates when your shield is in use, throwing it forward and slamming into your target. You can hold it to stay in the air, making it easier to hit your target, or land it on the ground.
War Chariot: performed by pressing Q and moving to the desired location. It can carry your team in their Attack state, and let you jump over obstacles. It can also protect the team from a certain attack or opening with an assist.

Why I Want To Watch
I’m a huge video game nerd, and while I’ve had fun with games like Cat Quest, the world of school video games just doesn’t do it for me. I still get massively excited when I see beautiful pixel creations from Japanese pixel artists, but when I meet a school girl that’s the universe’s greatest Zelda or Final Fantasy coder, I have to admit I find myself shocked, and it feels like meeting someone younger and less sophisticated than me.
Beyond the sheer capacity for conforming oneself to a manufactured fantasy image, I think school games can have a dramatic effect on how the views a child will hold on the adult world. To that effect, if I can find a truly insightful piece of video game writing, I’m willing to give it a try for reviews.

Why I Want To Watch
She’s a brilliant writer, and Mein Solitude is a really great take on her own mental health struggles with empathy. While it sounds like super idealistic message about kids trying to find their place in the world, the ending at the time we first saw it, it ended on a really unsettling conclusion. She wrote Mein Solitude not just to learn more about her depression, but to learn more about herself and her vulnerability to mental illness in general.

Key Game Mechanics:
Color Swapping: When playing Slip, you don’t use traditional platforming mechanics as you would in say, Super Meat Boy, or those other dozens of platforming games. Instead, when landing on certain obstacles you’ll be forced to color-swap. Dying will not cause you to lose your last color swap. You can even swap back and forth as many times as you like in a level. So don’t worry – it’s not like Freelancer. However you still are responsible for making sure that you only have one color in your color bar on the screen at all times. The game is incredibly unforgiving. And while dying will result in you losing the last color swap, you can still swap back and forth. Unfortunately, after a certain point you will no longer be able to swap back to your original color until you start a new game.
2-Color: The game features two colors. You’ll have to be careful about using each color. When a projectile or any other obstacle is in your color bar, you’ll need to be aware of your color to avoid being destroyed immediately. Moreover, items that you can pick up by using your color bar will have the color of that bar. So when you pick up the pepper shaker with your color on it, you’ll be able to shoot a pepper spray at a hurled shuriken or a thrown wrench by using your color.
