while i was making songsmith, i took a course on meditating. i was pretty good at it by the end of it. thats really what this project has been about for me: learning to meditate. it can be done in so many different ways. i think i went for the traditional buddhist approach of focusing on the breath, but i also did the one where you just focus on your emotions – its all about gaining control over your emotions. the meditation centers on essentially how to be in control of your emotion, and you kind of start meditating with an emotion, and then you start to break down what that emotion is. eventually, youre like, okay, that was my fear and that was my sadness and that was my joy – so i have to sort of figure out what i can do with it. and i can use that as a starting point to figure out what i want to do with my music.
