AVCHD is another video format that is known for producing video that doesn’t always play well on the vast majority of modern devices. Some of those devices require specific video codecs to be able to play the video, and some of those codecs are not always installed on all modern devices. AVCHD is a proprietary format that is mostly licensed for Sony devices.
This is why I haven’t included AMVConverter or ffmpeg as answers to your question. Both tools aren’t compatible with every video format, as they are proprietary tools, and they are not open source. They are also not amenable to editing the file, as it is a proprietary format.
AVCHD can be converted to another video format using the ffmpeg or mencoder tool.
The process is complicated, so I will recommend either the use of the ffmpeg or mencoder tools.
