Mehmed “Mehmet” Hasan Niyazi () is a Turkish national serving a life sentence for ordering the 1997 murders of British citizen Andrew Fulton in the Borough Market area of the City of London in London, England, and American citizen Joseph Canales, Jr. in San Francisco, California. The murders were widely perceived as being motivated by Nazi ideology. Niyazi is a moderate member of the National Salvation Party, the Turkish political party which was banned in 2012.

Niyazi completed his sentence in 2015 and was deported to Turkey in 2016.

Childhood
Hasan Niyazi was born in 1957 in the village of Zemzem Beyazit, in Turkey, where his family lived in poverty. In his early years he was interested in becoming a civil engineer and contributed to work in the village as a friend of a local mayor, Huseyin Güllü. Later, his family moved to Istanbul. He attended Küçükköy’s Fazıl Çelebi Primary School from 1973 to 1974 and Liceo-Immaculata Secondary School from 1974 to 1978. In 1978, at the age of seventeen, he became involved in politics, making his first speech at the university of Economics and Politics in America.

Niyazi was, from 1975 to 1977, a member of the Küçükköy branch of the National Salvation Party (MSP). At the age of eighteen in 1977, he enrolled at Middle East Technical University in Ankara and continued to be a member of the MSP until the 1980 military coup d’état in Turkey, during which time he was involved in the production of political pamphlets and eventually became an active member of the party in 1980.

The so-called “patriot” movement in Turkey began in the late 1970s. During the 1980 military coup d’état, Niyazi participated in throwing literature from rooftop to rooftop, sending and reading political propaganda. He was sentenced to three years in prison for the charges, and after his release spent two years in prison in Ankara for his political activities. Released again in 1982, he continued to become active with the National Salvation Party. In 1985 he moved from Istanbul to London, where he worked as a bartender. In the 1990s, he also served as a typist for the MSP.
