Sorting

There are 2 possible sorting options, they are “on node text” and “on parent node text”. Both sort parent nodes before child nodes. Only one can be active at a time.

Cladogram node separator

There are 4 possible options, they are none, space, comma and period.

Hide empty nodes (hides the parent nodes that contain no children)

If you want to hide empty nodes use the combobox below and select Hide empty nodes. This will hide the parent node for every empty child node, even if there is more than one. Empty nodes are those that only have children of a node higher in the tree (childless). They are typically parent nodes.

Hide “hidden” (childless) nodes

This option will hide childless nodes, this includes nodes that only have children that are higher in the tree.

Hide siblings

This option will hide nodes that have siblings higher in the tree.

CladEd is a quick and simple utility to create Cladograms.
CladEd can be used to create Cladograms from a tree control. For example, CladEd can be used to create a Cladogram for an unrooted tree using a tree control. You can also manually edit a Cladogram using a tree control.
CladEd is written in C# and is freely available for non-commercial use.
Using CladEd
CladEd’s tree control can be used to create, edit and add a tree for a Cladogram.
Steps:

Double-click on the Cladogram to open a new Cladogram window.
On the Cladogram menu, select Edit Tree…
On the Edit Tree window, select the tree control to use for the Cladogram.
If the tree control contains groups, select a group to include in the Cladogram and click OK.
If you want to exclude a group, clear the Include group check box and click OK.
If you want to include the tree as a diagram, select Include in diagram check box and click OK.
If you want to use an external file to define the structure of the tree, select Use Tree.
Browse for the external file you want to use.
Click OK.

Select Save… from the Cladogram menu.
Select Save Cladogram… in the Save dialog box.
Enter a name for the Cladogram in the Name box.
Click Save to create a new Cladogram or Save As to create a new Cladogram with the same name as the existing one.

Using the Cladogram editor:

On the Cladogram menu, select Edit Tree…
In the Edit Tree window, select the tree control to use for the Cladogram.
If the tree control contains groups, select a group to include in the Cladogram and click OK.
If you want to exclude a group, clear the Include group check box and click OK.
If you want to include the tree as a diagram, select Include in diagram check box and click OK.
