In Tiger Fighter 1931 Tora! there is a set of new high school students and an atmosphere of a tournament action. They fight against all types of opponents and each of the students have a certain fighting style. The story of the series focuses on two main characters, Kan Sawakubo (トラ　ケン) and George Tozawa (とおみちょう). The English title takes its name from the American title of the episode “A Meeting With Tiger Fighter 1931 Tora!.”

The series has been published in English by Diamond Comics, beginning in October 2010.

In December 2017, it was announced that the manga would be getting an anime adaptation.

Plot summary

Tora (Tiger) Hattori (ハトラ 刀), a guy who has been bullied from a young age after being considered an insect, has every intention of becoming a hero, succeeding in gaining the attention of the beautiful elementary school teacher Arikawa. He is a genius who is known to be able to read any book he flips through, far ahead of his peers. One day during summer break, he finds not just a book readied for him, but a book given to him by a stranger, who wishes him to gain the title of the strongest hero of Japan, with the names of the three people who refuse to be judged by the book being Kan, Sera and Zen. These three “fighters” represent the shogi (将棋）, a type of Japanese strategy card game, that Hattori has played since he was a child. Kan has been a shogi prodigy since he was twelve, Sera is famous for his brutal face to face sports games, while Zen is known for being a smart tactician and a well-disciplined young student. Moreover, the three are studying under Akashi, a famous high school student and undefeated shogi player.

This sparks Hattori’s curiosity, and he begins to study shogi in earnest, attacking any other local teenagers who desire to challenge him. Eventually, the three challenge each other to a game of shogi, and the goal is for Hattori to defeat
