CSS Mixer

CSS Mixer is an ASP.NET control to combine many CSS files into one. The combined result is then minified. The feature that makes this work is the YUI Compressor for.Net.

CSS Mixer is a Silverlight control. It is not available in the ASP.NET 4.0 Beta 2. If you want to use it, you have to install a runtime version of Silverlight. You can use this tool to combine multiple CSS files into one in Silverlight.

If you want to add this CSS file to your web application, you can add the below HTML to your web.config file.

You can combine multiple CSS files with CSS Mixer. Click Combine All. If you check “Output compressed file”, the CSS files are combined and minified. You can set compression options here. You can define compression options in bytes. For example, if you want to minify at least 50% and compress to at most 50%, you can specify 50/50 in this box.

If you want to combine CSS and JS files, you can use the YUI Compressor for.Net to minify and compress it. Click Options and set the following parameters.

CSS Mixer is a small utility developed to simplify web development by allowing you to combine many CSS files into one. Select from a large list of included CSS files (Yahoo! I added a button to the YUI Compressor for.NET properties dialog.
To use this button, please follow the steps bellow:

-Right click on the project (here “YUI Compressor”) and select properties.
-Select the button : “Configure Project”, and go to “Build Actions”.
-Click on “Add”. You’ll see a new project action : “Configure YUI Compressor for.Net”.
-Follow the wizard. Click on “Finish”.

This will put a new folder in the bin folder of your project. It contains all the needed files.

How to run it :

-You should use the “YUI Compressor for.NET” to minify your css files.
-Edit your code and you’ll have new small file that compress the CSS code.
-Add the minified file to the Web.Config of your web site.
-To use it, you should have a pre-compressed version of your css file.
-This is the best practice for minification. If you use a minification tool such as your code will be only minified.
