There is good news in this as many creatures need the oceans to live, and the oceans need the creatures to survive. For example, fish, shrimp and other creatures create the oxygen we need to breathe, and they also provide a huge source of nutrition for us, and that is great. Sadly, many creatures in the oceans are not doing so well. The climate is changing at an unprecedented rate, and as a result many of the creatures that need the oceans are not doing so well. As a result, both the health and the productivity of the oceans are declining. A recent scientific study has found that the total amount of ocean has gone down by about two percent since 1950, and that equates to over two hundred million acres of ocean disappearing every year. This means, the oceans are declining at a faster rate than they have in hundreds and hundreds of years. There are many sources of pollution in the oceans, and the biggest and most obvious source is the human population. Over half of the rivers that run into the oceans end up in the oceans for our drinking and bathing. Without us, most of the creatures would not be able to survive. So as the human population continues to grow, we need to be mindful of our impact on the health and the well being of the oceans. Another way in which humans impact the oceans is by drilling deep into the ocean floor and dredging up the treasure that is housed there. On a more positive note, humans are searching for ways to conserve the oceans. For example, marine scientists are looking into ways to clean and turn the oceans into a sustainable way of life for us.
