History
Loddon was first incorporated as a Road District on 9 October 1862, and became a Shire on 8 November 1864.
On 11 November 1887, parts of the Shire of Loddon and the Shire of Wando were annexed to the Shire of Casterton.
On 22 November 1889, the Shire of Omeo was excised from the Shire of Loddon.
On 22 June 1891, the Shire of Barmah was excised from the Shire of Loddon.
On 9 November 1897, the Shire of Loddon was divided into four wards: Loddon, Yarra, Barmah, and Moyce.
On 21 January 1904, parts of the Shire of Dunmow and the Shire of Yarra-Yilrambera were annexed to the Shire of Loddon.
On 18 November 1926, parts of the Shire of Loddon and the Shire of Wando were excised to create the Shire of Moyce.
On 20 March 1948, the Shire of Loddon was split into the Cities of Loddon and Bairnsdale.
