it takes a minute or two to generate a “pair”, which includes a pair of endpoints with two different network adapters. to see what pairs are available on your network, go to ixchariots settings and click the “pairs” tab.
ixchariots multipair simulations work like any other pair test, with the exception that the router sits in the middle of two users, so when they talk to it, each user gets a copy of the data. we configured it for 8 pairs in the 2.4ghz band and 4 pairs in the 5ghz band. our tests showed that the raxe500 delivered 1.377gbps in the 2.4ghz band and 1.424gbps in the 5ghz band, when we ran two pairs. the throughput numbers went up to 1.454gbps for 2.4ghz and 1.506gbps for 5ghz, when we ran four pairs. a 1.5gbps is a bit slow, but only a handful of routers have better throughput. for comparison, the second fastest router, the tp-link mr3220 delivered only 0.5gbps with 2.4ghz and 0.6gbps with 5ghz. this is why we had to remove it from our top-10 list.
in every one of our tests, the raxe500 performed significantly better than the other routers in the top-10 list. it may be that the file transfers were slower because we had to use the nfv mode. our tests ran about a month before we started to hear about a similar problem with the ixchariot software. at that point, we stopped testing, due to the time investment.
the ixchariot software allows you to create a simulation for your home network. you can set up a network with multiple users, various traffic patterns, how much data, what types of traffic, and what frequency bands. with it, you can simulate a variety of real-life situations. the speed of the application is much faster than other similar simulators. you can also download the data from the application and save it in a variety of formats.
