as you add female guests to your party, they’ll perform various dances for you. as you feed them all alcohol, they’ll all become intoxicated. if you flirt with the playmate of the month, they’ll reveal their sexual preferences and a different weapon. if she likes you, she’ll shower you with gifts. you can then sell the things she’s given you and spend the money on other, more pressing tasks. the game offers only five different playmates per party, and it only lets you play with one at a time. although there’s a story mode that will let you play through a set number of sessions, you’re really just playing through a set number of tasks, and even when you finish a task you can move on to the next one. there’s no game-ender. at the end of the game, you’re thrown a party like any other and asked to go back to the mansion and play some games.

as you buy furniture and upgrade your home from the small beginnings you get as a new bachelor, you’ll notice that he’s the only fully-furnished location in the game. he’s also the only place where you have to watch a television to receive pop-up screens as you finish tasks. there are hardly any televisions in this mansion, so the tv may not be a regular sight in hef’s life, which means that you’ll have to guess at the purpose of the television. it’s useful for displaying pop-up screens as you complete tasks, but does not serve as a way to actually complete the game’s tasks, which, again, are few and unfulfilling.

on top of the world-class duds of hollywood, playboy has one of the best super bowl commercials, too. that’s because they actually recreated some of the best moments of the super bowl in the playboy mansion’s lavish playboy red light super bowl experience. there’s the heartwarming moment above when a player’s baby is born, which happens every week. or the moment when the player kills his high school rival, bill mumy, using a tranquilizer dart, which happens every year. any one of these videos is more than worth watching on its own, but it’s even better when it’s crammed into a 15-minute half-hour episode that includes new versions of all four of the most popular games at the mansion.

as you play the new, 2013-launched ps3 version, you won’t notice much of a difference. you’ll get fewer cinematics and more variety in the voice-overs of your playmates. they’re still the same young women wearing variations of the same outfits and generally acting the same way, despite the mod. the difference is noticeable only when you get to the goals of your missions, which often necessitate finding playboy’s crown jewels, or you ain’t seen nuthin’ yet, the termplayboxtheyspeakfor. it also means that there’s only one playmate per mission, instead of two if you were playing the original playboy mansion: the game or the 2005 ps2 version of the game. the only women who play a pivotal role are the rich housewives: the misses playboy and the latter’s three potential finalist friends. there are fewer of them, and they’re scripted to be a bit more of a handful, but otherwise it’s just playboy’s old formula. plus, the digital camera is gone. you simply click on a segment and the camera zooms into it, all the better to capture that playboy centerfold for your trophy case.
goals are completed by playing a game in the mansion. each game consists of a goal to be completed by a player or group of players. a series of these games is called a “challenge.” you can create challenges and help them reach their goals in various ways. there are twelve games in total. the games include.
publicity. the goal is to increase or decrease the number of articles in the current issue. for instance, a game called “veranda surfing,” increases the number of articles by surfing on the veranda in front of the mansion.
