Installing the SD card on a portable device is too complicated to describe here so we are going to assume that you understand how to do that.
Download the recommended firmware for your device.
To be specific, I’m using these steps for a Nintendo 3DS XL but I think you’ll be ok with the steps for your DSi or 3DS.
Tap the home button until you see “FW/LB” then tap it until you see “Update”.
Tap update the system.
Confirm you’re not downloading the wrong version and tap OK.
If your DSi/3DS is fully charged, then it should automatically switch to download mode. To be safe, tap OK without selecting options.
From here, you’ll need to make sure the 3DS is fully charged and the SD card is inserted.
You can now wait for the download to complete.
Once that’s done, go to your SD card and enter the system update again.
If you are lucky, you will get a text message saying “system update complete” as that means that you should remove your SD card from the 3DS and insert it again.
When the update has successfully completed, tap the home button until you see “FW/LB”.
This time, tap “INIT” and you should see “start as normal”.
When it gets to the “home menu”, follow the on-screen instructions. When you reach the end, you will be asked for the passcode.
The time should be somewhere around 15 minutes to install.
Once it’s done and it’s time to power on, your device will reboot.
You can use the Internet, turn on Wi-Fi/Bluetooth or whatever you want during this stage.
When it restarts, you’ll be on the home menu.
If you have never used Nintendo Systems before, you can do a couple of things.
If you want to install a different rom, you’ll need to go to the menu and press start.
If you want to use a different system, then you can go to the main menu and touch “Init”.
You can also connect to the Internet and check for updates through wifi.
You can also use the e-shop and check out our deals.
If you do it all manually, it will take several hours. If you let the system update everything automatically, it can take as little as half
