i love the ssl type eqs and when im mixing vocals, its always the first eq i throw on the chain. usually starting by using a high-pass filter and cutting some frequencies around 400 khz 700 khz to remove muddiness. a good option for adding some air to vocal tracks too by boosting the super-high frequencies on it. today i tried to use the satson cs eq on my master bus while mastering. you have to be very careful while using them because all these 3 plugins are very accurate, so be sure not to go crazy on them, especially on the master buss. very subtle tweaks made my master sound pretty much better. i could smooth out the kick drum which was hitting the ear too hard, using that eq in a nice and subtle way. the eq-in button lets you bypass that single plugin unit to check the difference between the unprocessed and processed sound which is an important feature.
my favorite part of the sonimus satson cs has been being able to do a lot of series processing. this channel strip allowed me to have up to 8 modules at a time. if i wanted to do a series of eq, or compression to tame the peaks and the lows, i could. if i wanted to series gain-staging or add a little bit of distortion to my tracks, i could. just use the different modules up to however times you want! for example, you can have one eq module acting as a subtractive eq, while the other one would be adding on and smoothening the frequencies. all in one single plugin!

what satson is not is a magic fix. satson has no presets. it has no secret voodoo that will make bad mixes come to life. songs will never mix themselves, even on analog consoles. satson is great at being satson: a plug-in designed with the seasoned mix engineer in mind. if you are the type who understands building a mix from scratch and who appreciates the subtle nuances imparted by console circuitry, then satson is for you. if you are looking for instant chris lord alge, then you may want to look to the pricey signature plug-ins on the market. still, the bottom line is that sonimus satson represents both an incredible value and a technical marvel in terms of console emulation. the sound is truly that of the analog realm. satsons cpu performance puts the plug-in at the head of the class in the world of console emulation plug-ins, and the $39 price tag makes satson a no brainer.
you will find a lot of presets for different situations, such as clip-less compression and much more. the wah works just as any other compressor and will not allow for that effect to over modulate the compressor. the wah-wah algorithm is tonally transparent, so you will not lose any of the sound of the effect.
sonimus satson is available for vst, au, aax and rtas formats for windows (32 and 64 bit) and mac os x. version 1.0 was released on february 14th, 2016 and the most recent release is version 1.5.0 that was released october 24th, 2016. satsons free trial version is only available for download on their website and are limited to 48 hours of software usage.
so with the new satten interface, you get to see a picture of your sound first. once you choose your input, the channel strip changes color, and shows you the values of the different parameters. as you change the modules for the other boxes, they also change to match your selection. once you have the values you need for your mixes, satten allows for the easy to use audio routing options to get you into your tracks.
once you have completed your routing, you can get back into the sound by opening up the patch in a track or sound. you can load up to 8 sounds (including routings) at once and the save them all in one! now thats a very handy plugin indeed. i love the chord detection and playing back of chord charts as well.
the really good news is that satten can be expanded! sonimus has really thought about this plugin and comes with 5 extra modules for you to augment your console emulation powers. the more modules you have, the more you can do with your sound! i currently have three eq modules, two compression modules, and 2 gate modules. add in 4 much more basic modules, and you can do just about anything with this plugin! using the mixbus interface, you can even connect your daw or vst/au to the satten and affect your audio as you wish. i highly recommend this plugin for your console for sure!
