Commentary:

The combat in V1.0 of Godfall is fairly basic and simple; it’s just a bunch of straight-up combat and chop-combos. While these are quite similar to the original Godfall fights, there have been some new additions made to both design and mechanics that I think make this iteration a bit more rewarding than the original was.

Autumn Shot:

This new mechanic (or rather Summer Drop) is an overarching mechanic that links all the new weapons and fight events in this game. I’m telling you, it’s got a pretty name, the visuals are spectacular and the skill-tree is incredibly flexible and full of new moves, but without Autumn Shot, the combat in this game would be very hit and miss.

Autumn Shot:

This new weapon mechanic pumps up to full-auto weapons to 3x-4x the damage… To compensate for the increased damage with this mechanic, you’ll only have 6 frames of open-before you take a damage. The result of this is that you can zap people standing within a certain close-range radius without needing to block at close-range, instead performing your combat in under the six frames “safety window”.

The mechanics at play here are simple, but the risk-tolerance needed to pull this off in every situation on a heavy-damage-per-hit-dealout is high.

Rewards:

Combat will reward you for your successful use of Autumn Shot, and you will succeed when within a certain dimension of accuracy. There are five values for Autumn Shot, and the closer you are to that ideal, the more damage that will deal. These values are set differently for each weapon, so we’ll take a look at three examples.
