    Gulp Stops Workflow on Chrome Headless

    I’ve been using Gulp to run some very basic task on my Angular application and it works fine for almost all of them.
    I have one particular task that I’ve been trying to make work as it’s needed to run the Angular server after the gulp-watch task is triggered.
    With the code I’ve currently have, I get gulp to start a gulp-chrome-launcher process, but when I look at the tasklist it’s only running the gulp-watch task.

      In the year 2012—in a modern capitalist society where virtually every broadcast production remains a reality show or infotainment duster—there are still uncompensated artists.

      These are the talented screen composers who have landed their scores where they belong, one step below the music directors: on the wall. If there is no score called The Other Woman, which pops up on the summer TV schedule like a Carribean card shark, when you open the screen, the music is still there for you. In the traditional sense, it’s a part of the landscape. These artists have not been free to decline, and their work often doesn’t get to achieve the lofty status to which its paid equivalents surely are entitled.

      When I first used the words “uncompensated artists” to describe the state of music for movies, I am referring to a difficult historical reality. These days, an artist who works without compensation is a rarity. In fact, an uncompensated music crew does not exist in the mainstream cinema.

      In the modern world, where much of the work of a film crew is non-professionally executed, it is almost impossible for an artist to go out on a limb and state bluntly that no one is paying attention. Instead, I introduce this subject using a hypothetical situation in which an offshore music crew, unadorned by the dollar signs that can shape a company’s priorities and market decisions, must plan for a commissioned music play.

      Music is money. Without money, you don’t need a staff—you have nobody. It’s a capitalistic business. As Ricky Gervais once put it, “I’ve seen a lot of people with big houses and tons of money, and some of them are awful. But they always have the kind of money that you can tell they don’t need.” In the real world, this often takes the form of corporate self-protection, the defensiveness that comes from knowing a company is paying lip service to your career.

      Ryan Kelly’s Bag of Tricks is a wildly ambitious bit of design that begs you to consume it without noticing how elegantly and efficiently it fuses gameplay with documentation and interactivity.

      It began with a question that in a very real sense haunted the mind of Bryan Singh. “How can we relate in a digital space,” he asked, “an experience so analog in its feel that it’s been around for over 250 years.” The answer was to approach the material with the same kind of playfulness that has traditionally been such a hallmark of his artwork.

      Makes sense, he and his team, both on the design side and the programming side, worked together to evolve that question into an experience that falls somewhere between an interactive performance and the traditional card pack. And now, just two months into development, they release it as Bag of Tricks.

      Presented as a traditional card pack that, as the title implies, is literally full of tricks, it has a lot going for it. On the documentation side, in addition to the game’s flow chart and rules, there’s a full length walk-through and a PDF of the game’s art. But there are also the included cards, and in this case the act of reading them creates the experience of playing the game itself. The cards themselves are a marvel of design, a riotous set of shapes and patterns that are evocative of the original card games yet uniquely altered to their electronic form. You pull them out and turn them over, and the visuals and sounds tell you what they do.

      And you’re not just getting a burst of information. There is a longer story along with the rulebook, and as you play out the intricacies of each trick you come to understand it on a deeper level. We got our hands on the bag of tricks before its official release, so you can dive into its depth as soon as you’re ready.

      The game is peppered with moments of clarity and unexpected treats. Sometimes the cards lead you to other cards, each uniquely patterned in addition to functioning as pieces of the game. Other times the game reveals itself, and you must help the team puzzle out the next layer of interaction. This last layer led to some fascinating moments of discovery; it feels like the designers themselves were on the verge of cracking the code.
