Mechanical sizing is a process of obtaining a fixed diameter and length of thin metal plate by rolling. The gauge of an outer periphery of the plate is determined by a size of a roll and the technique to which the size is applied.
Mechanical sizing mainly includes a cold sizing that is carried out at room temperature and also a hot sizing that is carried out at high temperatures. As a hot rolling method to which an attention is paid, there is a dual phase rolling method of carrying out rolling at a size roll side by thrusting a molten material before entering a rolling mill. Since there is no need to change sizes of a size roll and a cooling roll, the dual phase rolling method provides the above-described advantages. As a device for carrying out dual phase rolling, there is a single roll type device, and, as a dual phase rolling work dedicated type device, there is an IP-system (International Patent Publication No. WO2007-146409).
An example of a single roll type device (roll modification type) is discussed in Journal of the Institute of Metal Equipment Mechanics, vol. 38, no. 10a (1992), pp. 981–983.
