deep copy/movement logic) and also helps greatly with performance (you’re

# Chapter 2: Creating Vector Elements

At first glance, a vector image seems to be some kind of pixelated file. However, a vector image is actually nothing more than a series of geometric shapes called _paths_. By using these paths, you can create sharp images that exactly match the artwork you created with Photoshop.

In this chapter, you find out about the ways you can create and edit vector paths. You discover how to create paths using the Pen tool and the Option/Alt key and how to edit them using the paths tools. You also find out how to convert a path into an image file.

# Understanding Vector Images

A vector image (illustrated in Figure 2-1) is an image that contains paths that determine how the image looks. The paths in a vector image are called _paths._ These paths can be resized and edited without losing resolution, and they can be moved, rotated, and modified with tools such as the Pen tool.

Illustrator and Photoshop use the same geometric shapes to create and edit paths, so you can work in Illustrator with paths you create in Photoshop.

When you create a vector image, you create paths as you draw with the Pen tool. Any path, simple or complex, can become a path you can work with. So you can create a path using the Pen tool, then convert that path into an image by using the Object → Path → Object to Path command. You can then edit the path using the Transform paths options or by reshaping the paths with the Move tool or the Pen tool.

You use the Transform paths options to edit paths by using the Transform tool (T) and working with the presets or options. You access this feature by right-clicking or holding down the Alt/Option key and choosing the transform paths options. You can also edit a path by using the Move tool or the Pen tool. The following steps show you how to manipulate paths.

Many Photoshop users like using both Photoshop and Photoshop Elements together to create new images. This article is a list of tips, tricks, and design features which will make your editing experience easier using both versions of Photoshop.

Tips for using Adobe Photoshop Elements and Photoshop

This article assumes that you already know how to use Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. Some tips and tricks explained in this article won’t make sense if you are totally new to the product.

Recommendation: To become familiar with Photoshop editing, I recommend that you get Photoshop for free and get as familiar as you can with the basic principles of the program. You will then have a good understanding of the operations, management and functions of the program.

1. Media Tab

When you import media files, Photoshop Elements inserts them into a separate tab under the “Media” tab (Figure 1). To access the Media tab, first click on the “Graphics” menu bar (Figure 2) and select “Media”.

In the Media tab, you can access all of your photos and videos. There are two versions of each:
