Speaking at the Brookings Institute’s January 23 “Conversation on Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation,” FCC Chairman Ajit Pai and FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler discussed the commission’s latest plan to overturn net neutrality rules, which the Republican chairman has said are unnecessary because no one has been hurt by them.

“They’re not bothering anybody. Nobody’s complaining. Nobody’s having a problem with it. We’ve received not a single complaint,” Pai said.

Pai also says the FCC plans to conduct an inquiry into consumer complaints about the net neutrality rules, and that “we want to be fully responsive.”

But Pai has also taken a more expansive approach than his Republican colleagues, including at least one Democratic commissioner, to defend the FCC’s efforts to repeal net neutrality rules. He has specifically singled out the “Open Internet Order” of 2010—which Republicans call the “Title II” order because it imposes common-carrier classification on broadband providers—as “bizarre.”
